I would like to introduce
myself; my name is Michael James Ewing of the Sommerville Shetland
Sheepdogs,
I live with my wife plus the dogs just outside the small
village of Dalrymple in Ayrshire Scotland.
A few years after we
got married I purchased my first Sheltie in 1973 but due to having a
young family and
working long hours it was not until 1980 when I
purchased a brood bitch from
Ron and Jean Fitzsimmons of the Snabswood Shetland Sheepdogs that I really got interested
in the
show side then I applied to the Kennel Club for my prefix of Sommerville
In 1991 I made up my
first Champion in this country
Ch Allanvail
Scarletta of Tegwel
Pedigree

I’ve also had several dogs qualified for
the stud book plus won several Challenge Certificates + resCCs
The last Champions I made up
before my accident in 2000 were
Ch Sommerville Seed Pearl
and Ch Sommerville Sunrise
In 1994 I sat the Mid
Western Shetland Sheepdog Club (in conjunction with the English
Shetland Sheepdog Club) Training of Judges Scheme of which I passed,
then in 1997 I judged my first Championship show in UK.
I’ve also
had the honour to be invited to Sweden in 1999 to judge one of their
Championship Shows,
since then I’ve judged in Holland, Finland &
Norway plus several venues in UK.
Due to a bad accident in
2000 I haven’t been showing till 2008
when I introduced my first
home breed blue merle dog Sommerville Mr Nice Guy
(photo on top of the page)
who had the honour
of winning the CC at Leeds Champ show under Mrs C Busby
Sommerville
Shelties in other countries:
In Denmark a dog of
mine was made a Champion at 18 months old,
DK Ch Sommerville I’m Your Man in 1993.
Since then I’ve bred other dogs that are now living in other countries
which have also become Champions
